Neighborhood Stabilization Program

In February, 2009, the Town of Cheektowaga filed a joint application with the City of Buffalo to the New York State Housing Finance Agency for funding under the Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Neighborhood Stabilization Program. Through the cooperative effort of the Town and the City of Buffalo, the two communities received a NSP grant of $2.25 million and a grant of $325,000 from the New York State Affordable Housing Corporation for the acquisition and rehabilitation or demolition of foreclosed properties in targeted neighborhoods. Of those amounts, the Town will receive a NSP grant of $660,823 and a NYSAHC grant of $165,000. The grant funds will be used to acquire and rehabilitate 6 foreclosed properties in the Walden Avenue neighborhood for resale to income-eligible homebuyers and demolish 3 dilapidated foreclosed properties in the Walden Avenue neighborhood. The Town has already acquired one property for rehabilitation on Hedwig Avenue and one property for demolition on Randolph Avenue.
Project activity is expected to in the spring of 2010. More information will be posted at this site as the program moves forward.
