You may apply for a dog license by either mail or in person at the Cheektowaga Town Clerk’s Office, located in the Town Hall. When registering dogs, you will need adoption/sales purchase contract, spay/neuter paperwork and rabies certificate.
Documentation required includes:
- Purchase Contract/Adoption Contract executed by both parties
- Spay/Neuter paperwork (If Applicable)
- Current Rabies Certificate

- $13.50 Spay (Female)/Neuter (Male)
- $15.50 Senior Owner (65 years or older) Unaltered/Intact
- $8.50 Senior Owner (65 years or older) Spayed/Neutered
RENEWAL FOR LICENSING YOUR DOG or Renew Online
New York State requires all dogs 4 months or older with valid rabies vaccination to be license at local municipality. Your dog’s license is renewable once a year on the anniversary of the registration on your dog. Cheektowaga Town Clerk’s Office send renewal letters to the owners by the first day of the month that the dog license is due. You may use the Renew Online link to renew your dog’s license only if your rabies are up to date and dog license is not overdue.You may also renew your dog license by mailing it in to Town Clerk’s Office or you may come in person. If you fail to renew your dog’s license within the month it is due, you will receive a notice to purchase it within 10 days. Failure to respond to the notice will result in a violation letter, which includes a fee of $10.00 plus the cost of the dog license. Failure to respond to the violation letter will result in a second violation, which includes a fee of $25.00 plus the cost of the dog license. If there is still no response to the violation notices, an Appearance Ticket is be issued which includes a fee of $35.00 plus the cost of the dog license. The Dog Control Officer has the authority to proceed further in Court if the dog owner fails to respond to all of the preceding notices.
You may use this form to transfer dog ownership from one person to another and give Town Clerks Office.
