Neighborhood Police Foot Patrols
The Community Development Block Grant program has funded neighborhood police foot patrols in the Walden Avenue, Pine Hill and Cedargrove Heights neighborhoods since 1995. Conducted during the summer months and on Halloween, the neighborhood police patrols have played an important role in helping to enhance the security and well-being of residents of these areas. The goals of the program are to increase the safety of residents in the targeted neighborhoods, reduce both the fear of and incidence of crime, and foster greater rapport and trust between residents and the police in order to better identify neighborhood problems and potential solutions.
The confidence of residents in their neighborhood is an important element of neighborhood stability. The Town believes that Police foot patrols are one way to demonstrate it’s commitment to maintaining the Walden/Pine Hill and Cedargrove Heights areas as safe and viable neighborhoods.
