Our name, Cheektowaga, is derived from an Erie-Seneca Indian word meaning “land of the crabapple.” We invite you to learn more about our family-friendly and culturally diverse community and then come see for yourself all we have to offer. As One of the largest towns in New York State, Cheektowaga is centrally located in Western New York. We are a first-ring suburb of the City of Buffalo, with a population of about 89,877 residents, as determined by the 2020 US Census. The Village of Sloan and a portion of the Village of Depew are located within our borders.
Traveling to Cheektowaga from almost anywhere is easy. We have convenient access to the New York State Thruway, Amtrak, NFTA-Metro and the Buffalo-Niagara International Airport, all located in the Town of Cheektowaga, and we are just 10 minutes from the Canadian border.
Cultural, recreational and entertainment opportunities, both here and within the City of Buffalo and our other neighboring communities, abound for visitors to the Town of Cheektowaga. With our convenient transportation infrastructure, you are minutes from a performance by the highly regarded Cheektowaga Community Symphony Orchestra or the wonderful Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra. Among our hometown amenities are the New York State Reinstein Woods Nature Preserve and Walden Galleria, Western New York’s premiere shopping mall.
