Senior Assistance & Outreach Services
The Senior Outreach Service was established over 20 years ago to provide FREE support and advocacy to Cheektowaga Seniors, age 60+, living at home. Assistance to clients is provided on a strictly confidential basis. Our Outreach Coordinator is available Monday through Friday from 9:00am – 4:30pm. Appointments can be made by calling 686-3930.
The Outreach office provides guidance and assistance in linking eligible Seniors to such entitlements as Food Stamps, Medicaid, Home Energy Assistance Program, Verizon Phone Discounts, Medicare Savings Programs, Affordable Health Insurance, the Older Driver Assistance Network and New York State’s Epic Drug Program. Advocacy in obtaining these programs is also available. Counseling is also provided in such areas as housing, nursing home and assisted living facility placements, transportation, and financial management.
Referrals for Community Development Grants, yard maintenance, snow removal, and handyman service is provided. Communication is ongoing with other Outreach Agencies in Eire County to provide Seniors with the most thorough case management services. To allow all Seniors access to eligible services, appointments for home visits are available for those who do not have transportation into our Center, so a thorough assessment for entitlements can be made. Following is a short benefit checklist. Income, Resources and Availability of Programs is subject to change. Call Jamie at 686-3930 for more information.
“Heap Cooling Assistance Program”
The Heap program is once again offering free air conditioning units to qualified individuals. To qualify for the program you must have received Heap or be eligible based on household income and provide medical documentation regarding an acute medical condition that is exacerbated by extreme heat. The documentation must be an original letter certified by a physician and must have been issued within the past six months. Households with a working AC unit that is less than five years old are not eligible for cooling assistance. Cooling services are provided on a first come, first served basis. Please contact Jamie to inquire and/or apply.
